Measurement traceability is key to maximising the gains from your measurement processes. Traceability offers peace of mind to operators when measuring parts by enabling access to previous measurement data.

It is important to highlight the benefits of measurement traceability to companies providing technical services with shop floor equipment.

Benefits

  • Increase the accuracy and overall performance of metrology equipment
  • Maintain quality & save time and resources with on-site calibration
  • View previous measurements for increased accuracy
  • Ensure you are measuring precisely the same way, every time

On-site calibration allows you to quickly identify wear and tear and act to resolve any issues detected. On-site calibration can also highlight potential problems before they arise.

Listed below are examples of commonly calibrated metrology equipment:

  • Vernier Protractors
  • Engineers Squares
  • External Micrometers
  • Internal Micrometers
  • Depth Micrometers
  • Tyre Depth Gauges

Calibration is the routine checking of a system to ensure it is working correctly and measuring within a certain range repeatedly.

This applies to systems such as CMMs. CMM calibration is the calibration of coordinate measuring machines. CMMs are complex machines and sometimes, system errors occur. In order to reduce the impact of these errors, CMM calibration can identify errors and ensure your CMM is performing efficiently.

Dimensional Calibration – Dimensional calibration is the calibration of a manually operated measurement tool. Dimensional calibration is performed by comparing the performance of a hand tool or another measuring instrument with a measurement standard to confirm that the tool produces quality results that meet or exceed the given criteria. This includes the calibration of Draper instruments, such as the steel ruler, torque wrench or external micrometer.

UKAS stands for ‘United Kingdom Accreditation Service’. UKAS is the only national body that can legally accredit and regulate calibration laboratories based in the UK. A UKAS accredited organisation, like The Sempre Group, can legally guarantee that all UKAS calibration services offered follow the BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard.

What is BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017?

BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is a globally recognised standard for the competence of ‘testing and calibration’ in laboratories.

Do I need UKAS accredited calibration?

UKAS accredited calibration is perfect for use in organisations where:

  • safety is an important factor
  • proof is required that services are done to the highest possible standards
  • exporting internationally – many organisations and governing authorities require extensive documentation

Our UKAS accredited calibration laboratory is able to calibrate a wide range of metrology equipment, contact us today to find out more about UKAS calibration.

ISO 10360-7 is the first internationally recognised standard to address and regulate the calibration and testing of CMMs equipped with an imaging probing system, such as video or optic measuring instruments.

Since 2000, The Sempre group has provided industry favoured metrology solutions to organisations across the UK and Ireland.

At Sempre, we ensure that equipment is calibrated to national standards. Want to discuss system servicing and quality calibration solutions? Get in touch with us today.
