Highly-precise and fast metrology for the automotive industry & Electric Vehicle Manufacture.
Improving efficiency in the automotive industry with metrology systems and automated quality management software options.
Speed and efficiency is key in the automotive industry. That’s why we provide high-speed, high-accuracy systems that are robust for use directly on the shop floor and as part of the production processes.
The speed and accuracy of our measuring solutions eliminate bottlenecks in production, and in-line checking reduces waste, time and helps dial each operation in quicker. With immediate feedback on every operation, no work is spent on scrap parts.
Working with our measurement systems, our software reduces paperwork and measurement result data input to a minimum with automated drawing recognition and reporting. We are also able to integrate cobots for automatic feeding to bring your manufacturing up to Quality 4.0 standards.
What about the introduction of Electric Vehicles…
The UK Government will ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars from 2030 to speed up the rollout of electric vehicles. Automotive manufacturers are now challenged with effectively adapting their vehicle designs and manufacturing lines to align with new legislation.
Transitioning from petrol and diesel to electric vehicles
Electric vehicles are far less complex to manufacture than petrol or diesel cars. However, there will be some key differences, particularly in the engine and gearbox. An electric motor has far fewer components than the internal combustion engine and the gearbox is fundamentally different.
While the demands for metrology will remain similar, manufacturers will have to measure different parts, particularly components of the electric motor.
Precision is vital when manufacturing components of the motor, particularly the rotor, stator and housing. To meet quality requirements in the automotive industry, manufacturers must use measurement equipment that produces highly precise and accurate results for these parts.
Rotor measurement
The rotor must be accurate in form and dimension to achieve the high rotational speeds and strong torque required to run the motor. Key features to measure in the rotor include form, size, position and diameter, as well as roundness of the rotor shaft.
Opticline T3D
A fast, optical shaft measurement technology with 1-micron accuracy, this system is perfect for the fast measurement of cylindrical components, such as the rotor.
The Jenoptik Opticline T3D also has an inbuilt touch probe that provides important measurements such as perpendicularity and face runout.
2D Part Measurement such as laminations
An efficient way to measure flat or 2D objects of any material, the InspecVision Planar 2D automated scanning system provides reliable, traceable results for multiple dimensions of parts in seconds. There is no need for hand tools, operators or manual input, reducing the potential for errors on the shop floor. One key application for the Planar is validating the shape and form of the metal plates for the stator.
Optical CMMs
The housing that encases the stator and rotor must be accurate to ensure every position and bearing hole is properly aligned. A combination of the Micro-Vu multi sensing CMM and the LK touch and optical CMM is ideal for these components.
Micro-Vu multi sensing CMMs measure machined parts and accepts most part sizes. It combines optical and tactile probe and laser measurement, as well as rotary options, for fast, high precision measurement.
LK Metrology’s touch and optical CMMs perform dimensional, positional and surface measurement on a single system. Combined with a complete range of contact and non-contact sensors, LK Metrology CMMs provide true multi-sensor capability.
Manufacturers may also need to upscale production to effectively meet demand for a higher volume of parts. To control the manufacturing process as production levels increase, consider how you can monitor quality across the entire process. Investing in digital technologies can give you full control over your measurement data and use it to make better decisions, improve traceability and increase productivity.
The Sempre Group can integrate, automate and connect equipment into a Quality 4.0 solution using factory wide real-time data collection, inspection planning and reporting automation software so that you can use the equipment, and the data it generates, to drive real value.
